GIS Summer Student
Overview
Are you looking for a hands-on role that allows you to get outside? Do you get excited about park planning, asset management, and the environment? If you want to work with a great team and take on new challenges, the GIS summer student role may be a good fit for you. This role will play a vital part in ensuring we have accurate, up to date information about the City’s infrastructure and assets to help with tree canopy preservation, park development and future planning.
Responsibilities
- Assist with field work using Trimble Handheld GPS and related software to capture and authenticate park’s assets.
- Edit ESRI geodatabase feature datasets, shapefiles and tables.
- Map layout creation for the parks department.
- Assist with the administration of site plan review, land planning, and park development
Qualifications
To be considered for this position, applicants must:
- Be innovative and able to work independently in all weather conditions.
- Be able to problem solve and think outside the box
- Work well with others and be able to train fellow employees.
- Have knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS 10-10.5 software.
Even better if you have:
- Knowledge of tree species and experience with tree inventory
- A background in landscape architecture or planning knowledge
All successful candidates must be able to attend mandatory orientation training on May 1, 2023.

- This position is based out of the Park’s office in Southside Park.
- Will be required to work in adverse weather conditions.
- May be required to work overtime.
