To be considered, applicants must possess the following minimum qualifications:

  • Degree or diploma in Horticulture, Landscape Design or equivalent from a recognized institution,

  • Valid Class “DZ” driver’s license in good standing,

  • Experience and knowledge of the work performed in the Parks Department,

  • Supervisory abilities with good organization and communication skills, both written and oral,

  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office and Dynascape or Auto CAD,

  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and MSDS protocols,

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision,

  • Landscape exterminator license considered an asset.



  1. Ensures routine park maintenance requirements are met:

    • Monitors and prioritizes maintenance work

    • Acts as designated MSDS representative and tracks MSDS sheets

    • Supervises staff:

      1. Assigns work on a daily basis

      2. Completes  necessary administrative paper work

      3. Ensures employees adhere to health and safety regulations

      4. Issues work orders and ensures work assignments are complete


  2. Oversees or performs maintenance duties, including but not restricted to:

    • Maintaining park areas

      1. Cuts, trims and employs Integrated Plant Health Care Program on turf areas

      2. Prepares and inspects ball diamonds and sports fields

      3. Operates and repairs irrigation systems

      4. Preparation and maintenance of horticultural displays

      5. Collection of garbage within parks

      6. Snow removal in designated areas around municipal properties

    • Maintaining Parks equipment and furnishings

      1. Performs or oversees repairs to mowers, trimmers and other tools and equipment

      2. Performs or oversees maintenance on Parks equipment and vehicles

    • Arranges for and oversees qualified and/or licensed service contractors as required





  3. Operates equipment including:

      • Front-end loaders

      • Tractors

      • Lawn mowers

      • Trucks


  4. Responds to public inquiries related to parks


  5. Works with minimal supervision


  6. Performs other duties as assigned


Rate of pay is Level 3 - $33.27 under review, per hour as per Schedule “A” of the Collective Agreement.
