“FULL-TIME CROSSING GUARD”

 

Qualifications Required:

  • Experience working with children,
  • Good physical condition, able to withstand extreme weather conditions,
  • Fully conversant in the English language written and oral,
  • Ability to pleasantly deal with the public,
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Must have access to a vehicle to commute to assigned work location

 

Summary of Position:

Ensures children’s safety at specified street crossings:

a)          Arrives at crossing at specified times and remains at crossing throughout the specified time,

b)          Must wear reflective safety vest and use a handheld Stop Sign,

c)          Must be able to hold up the hand held Stop Sign while reaching out the opposite arm for the duration of a few minutes while children are crossing

d)          Escorts children across the street, ensuring all vehicles stop in accordance with proper procedure,

e)          Reports the description of the vehicle and driver, time and place of incident, and the license plate number of any vehicles refusing to stop to the Supervisor,

f)           Reports consistently disobedient children to the Supervisor,

g)          Reports any incidents or conditions that present a potential safety hazard to the school children or crossing guard to the Supervisor,,

h)          Attends all scheduled crossing guard workshops.

 

Salary rate $16.85 -$17.37 per hour.  Hours of work will vary to a maximum of 24 hours per week, Monday to Friday during the school year.
