Summer Student Labourers
Overview
Are you looking for a hands-on role that allows you to get outside? Want to work with a great team and take on new challenges? We’re hiring summer student labourers to help deliver essential services to our community. There are a number of positions available and staff will have the opportunity to work throughout the city on a variety of assignments.
Available Positions
- Public Works Department: help keep the City looking great by cutting grass on boulevards, picking up litter, replacing signs and helping at the EnviroDepot.
- Parks Department: help keep our parks and trails safe and looking beautiful by cutting grass, maintaining flower beds, trimming branches and supporting special events.
- Water Department: help staff with a variety of water services including excavations, repainting fire hydrants, locating and checking water service jackets, installing water meters and testing backflows.
Qualifications
To be considered for the above positions, applicants must possess the following minimum qualifications:
- Minimum Grade 12 and must be returning to a post-secondary school.
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions and be physically able to perform duties.
- Must have Class G2 Ontario Driver’s License in good standing
Even better if you have:
- Standard First Aid and CPR training
- Experience operating a wide variety of handheld powered equipment
- Training with MTO Book 7 for Temporary Conditions, and proven knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other applicable legislation.
All successful candidates must be able to attend mandatory orientation training on May 1, 2023.

- Salary rate is $17.35 per hour as per Schedule "A" of the Collective Agreement.
- Scheduled 40-hour workweek, which may include weekends and alternate shift hours.
- Will be required to work in adverse weather conditions.
- May be required to work overtime.
